We hope you enjoyed Fowey Royal Regatta 2108 as much as we did organising it!

See you next year 18-24 August…

FOWEY ROYAL REGATTA 2017

fowey regatta cornwallThe Fowey Regatta is a must visit for anyone in Cornwall during the third week of August – visitors come from around the world to enjoy all there is to see and do. And this year we’re delighted to welcome back the world-famous RAF Red Arrows  to the town, for their much-loved displays.

There’s always a packed calendar of events – in 2017 from 13-19 August. Our calendar is still being finalised so do check back in a  few weeks.

But some events are regulars – everyone loves the spectacle of Wednesday’s Carnival procession (sets off from Squires Field at 7.15pm) through town, featuring locals and visitors in a weird and wonderful array of costumes – with prizes for the best dressed. Throughout Carnival Day, the town’s traders also deck out their shops and cafes and dress up according to a theme. Expect some truly amazing outfits!

Little ones love the Giant Pasty ceremony, in which the iconic pasty arrives by boat from Polruan – as well as magicians, the crab catching contest and a visit from Newquay Zoo. For the more active there’s a fun run, harbour swimming races, gig racing and raft race. And the town’s Flora Dance sees everyone dressed in white and bedecked with flowers, dancing though the town accompanied by a band (part of an ancient fertility ritual).

The Regatta is also one of the UK’s best known sailing events. There’s a full programme of races, including the famous Troys, a class of sailing boat built only in Fowey. With live music daily and nightly on the Town Quay to suit every taste, fireworks both on Monday night and a spectacular display to mark the end of Regatta on Saturday, it’s one week you’ll want to come back to again and again.

Fowey Regatta programmes will be available from Tourist Information, beside Fowey Church, and from the Regatta Shop in the Town Hall on Fowey Town Quay, priced £3. All proceeds fund the Regatta events.
